Terms of Service

1. Who these terms apply to

These terms apply to work carried out by Canberra Handyman Services (ABN 25 400 566 062) of Torrens, Canberra ACT 2607, Australia. By accepting a quote from us you agree to these terms. Nothing here limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

2. Services we provide

We carry out handyman and property maintenance work, including:

  • Painting & Wall Repairs
  • Carpentry & Timber Maintenance
  • Gutter Cleaning & Roof Repairs
  • Doors & Locks
  • Outdoor Maintenance & Paving
  • Furniture Assembly & TV Mounting
  • Tile & Grout Repairs
  • Waste removal and general odd jobs
  • Pre-tenancy and post-tenancy maintenance (exit report items)

3. Work outside our scope

Handyman work covers repairs and maintenance. Licensed electrical work, licensed plumbing, structural building work and full re-roofing sit outside our scope and outside our insurance. Where a job needs a licensed trade we will tell you and, where we can, point you to someone appropriate. We will not carry out work we are not licensed to do.

4. Quotes and pricing

All prices are in Australian dollars and include GST where applicable. We provide a fixed-price quote before any work begins, based on the description and photos you give us. That price does not change unless:

  • You change or add to the scope of work
  • The job on site differs materially from what was described or shown to us
  • We uncover a hidden problem that could not reasonably have been identified beforehand

In any of those cases we will stop, explain the position, and give you a revised price to approve before continuing. Quotes are valid for 30 days.

5. Bookings and access

You agree to provide safe and reasonable access to the work area at the agreed time, including access to power and water where the job requires it. If we cannot access the site at the booked time, we may need to reschedule and a call-out charge may apply.

6. Cancellation

Please give us at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations inside 24 hours, or where we arrive and cannot access the site, may attract a reasonable call-out fee to cover the time reserved. We will always try to work with you where something unavoidable comes up.

7. Payment

Payment is due on completion unless we have agreed otherwise in writing. We accept cash, bank transfer and credit card. For larger jobs we may ask for a deposit toward materials, which will be set out in the quote.

8. Workmanship

We stand behind our work. If something we have done is not right, tell us within a reasonable time and we will come back and put it right. This is in addition to the consumer guarantees you have under the Australian Consumer Law, which cannot be excluded.

Materials and fittings supplied by us carry whatever manufacturer's warranty applies to them. Where you supply the materials, we warrant our installation but not the goods themselves.

9. Pre-existing conditions

We are not responsible for pre-existing defects, wear or damage that we did not cause, or for problems arising from the condition of the building that were not visible at the time of quoting. Where we notice something of that kind, we will point it out.

10. Insurance and liability

We hold public liability insurance. To the extent permitted by law, and other than for loss caused by our negligence, our liability is limited to re-performing the work or refunding the amount paid for it. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.

11. Website content

Information on this website, including guides and pricing ranges, is general in nature and provided in good faith. Prices shown are indicative; only a written quote is binding. The content, images and branding on this site belong to Canberra Handyman Services.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version published on this page at the time you accept a quote is the version that applies to your job.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Australian Capital Territory.
