Blocked gutters cause expensive damage quietly
A gutter full of wet leaf litter does not look like an emergency. What it does is hold water against the fascia, push overflow back under the roof line, and send it into the ceiling and down the inside of the wall. By the time a stain appears on the ceiling, water has been getting in for a while.
We flush gutters, clear downpipe outlets, and carry out minor roof and leak repairs: cracked tiles, lifted flashing, ridge capping, and the source-tracing that finds where a ceiling leak actually starts.
What the job involves
Gutters get cleared by hand first, because a blower just moves silt further along the run. Downpipe outlets are the real choke point and get checked individually. Then the whole run gets flushed with water so we can watch it drain, which is the only way to know a downpipe is genuinely clear rather than clear at the top.
While we are up there we look at the rest of the roof line: valley flashing, ridge capping, soffit and fascia, and any cracked concrete or terracotta tiles. You get photos of anything worth knowing about and a fixed price to fix it. No pressure either way.
Minor roof and leak repairs
Cracked tiles get swapped for matching ones. Lifted flashing gets re-seated and sealed with a roof and gutter silicone rated for the exposure. Ridge capping that has cracked out gets re-bedded and pointed. Bigger jobs (a full re-roof, structural work, anything requiring a licensed roofer) get referred on rather than attempted.
Finding the source is the part that saves money. Water entering at a lifted flashing can appear on a ceiling several metres away, so sealing the nearest suspect often achieves nothing. We follow the path back.

There's a stain on my ceiling. Is that definitely the roof?
Not necessarily, and it is rarely directly beneath the entry point. Water tracks along battens and beams before it drops. Blocked gutters overflowing back under the roof line cause more ceiling stains in Canberra than actual tile damage does. We trace the path before quoting a fix.
Are gutter guards worth fitting?
It depends on your trees. Under fine leaf litter and eucalypt debris, guards can hold material on top and still need clearing, so the gain is small. Under large deciduous leaves they genuinely reduce blockages. We will give you a straight answer for your roof rather than a sales pitch.
Do you take the debris away?

Is it safe to clean my own gutters?
