Outside jobs add up faster than inside ones

Sunken pavers that catch a toe. A driveway and path gone green over winter. A fence panel that dropped in the last big blow. A yard that needs leveling before anything else can happen out there. Individually none of them is urgent, which is exactly why they sit for years.

We re-lay and level paving, pressure-wash hard surfaces back to clean, repair timber and panel fencing, and handle general garden and outdoor upkeep. It is the kind of list that usually needs three different trades. We do it in one visit with one invoice.

Paving and yard leveling

Pavers sink because the bedding sand beneath them washes out or compacts unevenly, almost always where water runs across the surface. Topping up the joints from above does nothing for that. The repair is to lift the affected section, re-screed fresh bedding sand to a proper level, and re-lay so the surface sits flat and the joints close up.

Trip hazards on a front path deserve to be dealt with promptly. A lifted edge of more than a few millimetres is enough to catch a foot, and it is a genuine liability on a property people walk up to.

Pressure washing

Canberra’s cold, damp winters put algae on anything that does not get sun, and shaded south-facing concrete goes green first. High-pressure washing takes driveways, paths, paving and patios back to their original colour. Where there are oil marks, surface degreasing goes on before the wash rather than hoping pressure alone lifts it.

Pressure needs matching to the material. Too much strips mortar out of joints, etches soft brick and scores older concrete, which looks worse than the stain did. We drop the setting around joints and edges.

Driveway sealing is worth considering afterwards on porous surfaces, but it needs a properly dry substrate, so it happens as a separate visit rather than straight after washing.

Fences

Panel fencing and timber fencing fail at predictable points: the bottom rail, the palings that sit closest to the ground, and the post at ground level. All three are usually repairable within the existing run. Fence post repair with a galvanised stirrup keeps new timber out of the wet ground so it does not go the same way.

We will tell you when a fence is genuinely past repair. Most are not.

General outdoor upkeep

Garden clearing, small yard leveling, drainage and pooling fixes, and the outdoor odd jobs that never quite make it to the top of the list. Green waste and rubble leave with us as part of the quoted price.
